The verb "ser" (simple present)

The verb "ser" means "to be" and is the most important verb in Spanish. Unfortunately, it's conjugation is very irregular which is why you'll have to memorize it:

Basic notes about nouns:

• Nouns can have 2 genders: Masculine or feminine. "Limón", for example, is masculine.
• The sufix "-(e)s" is used to make the plural. For example, "Limones" is the plural of Limón (Lemon).

The definite article

In Spanish there are two definite articles in singular ("el" and "la"), one for each gender.

Masculine definite article:

el limón
the lemon

Feminine definite article:

la naranja
the orange

My first sentence in Spanish

Now we can make our first sentence:

El limón es amarillo
The lemon is yellow

We applied what we have learned in the previous lessons about articles, nouns, the verb "ser" and colors in this first sentence.

The verb 'haber' (simple present)

The Verb "haber" don't have any meaning, it is only an auxiliar verb as "to have" and is the second most important verb in Spanish after "ser". Its conjugation is also irregular:
